Today, Joseph Beuys is considered one of the most important protagonists of 20th century art. His work ranges from traditional forms of representation such as drawing, painting and sculpture to multiples, large installations and public appearances.

The current exhibition Auschwitz and the Second World War in the Work of Joseph Beuys with more than 100 works of art and photographs and the laboratory room on Joseph Beuys and National Socialism provide a differentiated answer to the question of Beuys' relationship to the Nazi era. It becomes clear that throughout his entire creative period - from the 1940s to the 1980s - Beuys repeatedly dealt with the Second World War and Auschwitz in particular in different artistic ways.
